Food Writing for Beginners
ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Hey there! My name is Ashlie Stevens. I've written about food for NPR, All Things Considered, Eater, Vice, Marketplace and National Geographic; currently, I'm the food and culture reporter at Salon and am working on a book for University Press of Kentucky about moonshine.
ABOUT THE CLASS:
Whether you’re already earning money from your food writing or the most you’ve ever written is a Yelp review about your dinner, this four-week class is designed to help students take their skills to the next level. Just $65 gets you into all four class meetings in this series (that's just over $16 per class!) Class 1: Saturday, May 9 (11am) Class 2: Saturday, May 16 (11am) Class 3: Saturday, May 23 (11am) Class 4: Saturday May 30 (11am) Using weekly lessons, a comprehensive reading list and personal feedback, participants will learn about the elements of creating and selling great food writing.
MATERIALS STUDENTS WILL USE IN CLASS: Binder of reading materials and reading recommendations
Minimum age requirement: Must be 18 or older.
A notebook and writing utensil (or a laptop, if preferred)
