Modern Embroidery 2.0 - Virtual Workshop
ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Embroidery is a craft that I learned when I was growing up, playing with thread in my grandmother's house, and my skill and style has evolved over the years and turned into my full-time job that I have loved for the past 7 years. I love being able to take this age-old craft and give it a modern twist. And even more than that, I love getting to teach others how to access their creativity through embroidery! My workshops that I have been teaching for over 5 years are very laid back and take a free-form approach to this fiber art so that your personal style will shine through in your embroidery piece. I have taught over 1200 students in my embroidery workshops at all levels of skill and creativity.
Whether you have dozens of finished embroidery pieces in your crafty portfolio, or you have never picked up a needle and thread, there is an opportunity for creative growth for you in my embroidery workshop. When I am not stitching or teaching, I am most likely soaking up all the childhood sweetness with my daughter Zuri or enjoying a Louisville City game with my husband Paul. I am a Louisville native, and love everything about this city, so there's a good chance that you will see me around town at my favorite restaurant (Red Hog), coffee shop (Sunergos on Woodlawn), or hanging out at Cherokee Park enjoying the ever-changing weather. I can't wait to see you in class!
ABOUT THE CLASS:
So you're ready for more stitching?
Join Jordan Kavuma of Thistle and Thread Design as she takes your embroidery skills to the next level in this virtual Modern Embroidery 2.0 workshop!
In this 2.0 workshop, you will learn more advanced techniques than you would in the beginner's class as well as work on a more detailed pattern. Because this class requires a working knowledge of embroidery, it is encouraged that you first take Jordan's Modern Embroidery for Beginner's workshop.
We will dive straight into the pattern and learn about the strategy behind approaching a more complex project.
By the end of this class you will:
- have experience with shading using your embroidery floss
- practice the short and long stitch, french knot, and stem stitch
- be ready to tackle more advanced embroidery patterns from Thistle and Thread
Because of the time required to complete more complex embroidery pieces, there is a high probability that you will not complete your pattern during the class. However, Jordan will provide you with all of the tools, materials, and instruction that you will need to finish from the comfort of your home while curled up binging your favorite TV show. After the class, you will receive a recording of the workshop so that you can go back and watch any parts that you might need a refresher on.
This virtual workshop will take place over Zoom. You will receive an message with instructions on how to join the workshop 24 hours before class begins. If you have any questions about logging into Zoom, please reach out to Jordan and she will be more than happy to assist you to the best of her ability.
