Arts & Crafts
Modern Embroidery for Beginners
ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Embroidery is a craft that I learned when I was growing up, playing with thread in my grandmother's house, and my skill and style has evolved over the years and turned into my full-time job that I have loved for the past 7 years. I love being able to take this age-old craft and give it a modern twist. And even more than that, I love getting to teach others how to access their creativity through embroidery! My workshops that I have been teaching for over 5 years are very laid back and take a free-form approach to this fiber art, so that your personal style will shine through in your embroidery piece. I have taught over 1200 students in my embroidery workshops at all levels of skill and creativity. Whether you have dozens of finished embroidery pieces in your crafty portfolio, or you have never picked up a needle and thread, there is an opportunity for creative growth for you in my embroidery workshop. When I am not stitching or teaching, I am most likely soaking up all the childhood sweetness with my daughter Zuri or enjoying a Louisville City game with my husband Paul. I am a Louisville native, and love everything about this city, so there's a good chance that you will see me around town at my favorite restaurant (Red Hog), coffee shop (Sunergos on Woodlawn), or hanging out at Cherokee Park enjoying the ever-changing weather. I can't wait to see you in class!
ABOUT THE CLASS:
This is not your mama's embroidery workshop. Join Jordan Kavuma of Thistle and Thread Design as she teaches you how to embrace your creativity through this Modern Embroidery Workshop. In this beginner's workshop you will learn 2-3 stitches that you will practice on the pattern provided in class. Although you will be working on the same pattern as the other workshop participants, you will have a chance to show your individuality by choosing your thread colors to make your embroidery piece uniquely yours. Jordan will guide you through the pattern from beginning to end as well as provide tips and tricks on material selection, pattern creation, and how you can continue to cultivate your new love for this age-old fiber art.
